Woman assaulted at Tyger Valley Home Affairs despite valid appointment

A Cape Town woman has told VOC News that she was forcibly pushed to the ground by a Home Affairs official at the Tyger Valley branch, despite having a valid appointment.

Kaashiefa Koli said she booked her slot through the official DHA website and did not pay any third party.

“I diligently tried every day until December, and eventually secured an available slot for 22 January,” she explained. “I received a confirmation number and checked regularly; it showed that I had an active appointment up until last week.”

She said she arrived at the branch only to be denied entry.

“I showed my confirmation on my phone, but the official refused to check it and shoved me when I tried to prevent the door from being closed in my face,” Koli said.

“The first person to push me was not a security guard — it was a Home Affairs official.”

Koli has since lodged a police report and obtained a medical certificate to support her case.

“I’m not concerned about an online booking scam or system faults; the assault is what matters,” she added.

The incident has sparked calls for the DHA to review its branch procedures and security protocols.
