Communities across the Western Cape are facing increasing water shortages due to a combination of low rainfall, ageing infrastructure, invasive plant species, and rising demand.
Provincial MEC for Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Anton Bredell, has urged residents and visitors to prioritise water conservation as drought conditions persist in the province.
“I want to urge all residents and visitors to the Western Cape to treat water with respect and not to waste even a drop. If we all do our bit, we can preserve this precious resource so that everyone can enjoy water security,” Bredell said.
Authorities have warned that the strain on water resources could worsen if consumption is not reduced, particularly as environmental pressures and infrastructure challenges continue to affect supply.
Residents are being encouraged to adopt water-wise practices in their daily routines to help safeguard water availability in the months ahead.
