Alan Winde says urgent national support is needed to accelerate assistance to communities affected by severe weather across the province.
This follows the official declaration of a provincial disaster after widespread flooding and infrastructure damage in several parts of the Western Cape.
Winde’s spokesperson, Regan Thaw, said recovery operations are continuing, with electricity already restored to most affected communities, while clean-up and repair work remains underway.
“Premier Winde stressed the need for urgency in ensuring that funding is made available as quickly as possible to support affected communities, restore damaged infrastructure, and strengthen resilience against future disasters,” Thaw said.
He added that the provincial response has now shifted toward longer-term recovery and humanitarian support efforts.
“The provincial response has now shifted toward ongoing humanitarian relief, the repair of critical infrastructure, and the restoration of essential services,” he said.
