The Western Cape Education MEC Debbie Schäfer says her department has made progress in placing learners for 2022, though there are currently 602 Grade 1 learners and over 3000 Grade 8s who still do not have places.
Over 18 600 places have been made available in order to relieve the pressure on placement in schools. Schäfer says the department has added a further 590 teaching posts.
