“United Kingdom political prisoners Heba Muraisi, Teuta Hoxha, Kamran Ahmed, and Lewie Chiaramello have, at the time of writing, been on hunger strike for up to 65 days.”
This is according to various pro-Palestine civil society groups, who called on the UK government to intervene in a joint statement.
The groups further stated that the reported actions constituted a “profoundly ethical intervention,” motivated by a refusal to be complicit in what they describe as ongoing genocide.
“These activists linked to Palestine Action have been labelled terrorists, a label the government uses to target them for persecution. A total of 33 activists remain in UK pre-trial detention, unjustly denied bail for as much as a year for allegations that have yet to be heard in court.”
“They are subjected to shocking mistreatment in prison, placed in solitary confinement, abused by prison guards, denied medical care, and have had their communications censored,” detailed the civil society groups.
The groups noted that four out of eight strikers have continued to refuse food until today, with the longest hunger striker, Heba Muraisi, marking 65 days, who was held without bail for over a year.
“Heba’s trial will only commence in June 2026. If she survives until then, she will have spent over 19 months in jail without being convicted of a crime,” added civil society groups.
