United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has described the situation in Sudan as a catastrophe of staggering scale and brutality. The ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has plunged the country deeper into turmoil, resulting in more than 12.4 million people being displaced.
In an interview with VOC News, Dr. Abdul Karim Elgoni, a Sudanese political commentator, highlighted that civilians in Sudan are facing an increasingly dire situation with no security. He explained that anyone, whether from the army or other armed groups, can approach them at any time.
“They can come to take your belongings, car, cell phone, or the little food you have, as everyone is hungry. Most borders are not allowing aid to come in. The catastrophe is immense; people are dying in many areas of Sudan from hunger and disease. It is unbelievable, and it makes me sad. We want the war to stop. We are calling for a cessation of hostilities.”
