The Voice of the Cape’s much-anticipated annual Muharram Khatam has officially commenced

The Voice of the Cape’s much-anticipated annual Muharram Khatam will commence on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, bringing together renowned huffaath and listeners in a spiritually uplifting programme marking the start of the Islamic New Year.

As part of its longstanding tradition, the station will host a series of Qur’an recitations and reflections throughout the programme, providing an opportunity for the community to begin the new Hijri year in remembrance of Allah (SWT).

The event will culminate at Beitul Amaan, a home for the elderly and frail care centre, where the final recitations and closing programme will take place.

In the spirit of compassion and community support, Voice of the Cape is encouraging listeners to donate to support the care and well-being of the facility’s residents. Contributions will assist Beitul Amaan in continuing its valuable work of providing care, comfort, and dignity to its elderly residents.

“VOC is proud to be partnering with Beitul Amaan Frail Care Centre and Home for the Aged for the annual Muharram programme. We are asking our listeners to come to the fore once again by donating adult diapers (extra-large or double extra-large), toiletries, powder, or any hygiene-related items that may be of use,” VOC Station Manager Goolam Fakier appealed.

Fakier said the annual Muharram Khatam not only serves as a spiritual gathering but also highlights the importance of supporting vulnerable members of society through acts of charity and kindness.
