The Pretoria Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 47-year-old man to 15 years in prison for raping one man and attempting to rape another at a shelter in Akasia.
The offences occurred in the shelter’s bathroom in July and November 2023, during a period when Niel Klein and both victims were residing at the facility.
One of the victims informed a staff member about the incident, which led the second victim to reveal the earlier attempted rape.
Speaking to VOC News, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said the incident highlights the stigma faced by men who experience sexual offences and may be hesitant or fearful to report them.
