The Bo Kaap community expresses concern over a recent shooting in the area

Amid rising gang violence in the Western Cape, local sources informed VOC News of a recent shooting in the Bo Kaap region. The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that officers discovered the body of a 22-year-old male with gunshot wounds.

SAPS reported that the victim was approached by an unidentified suspect or suspects who opened fire before fleeing the scene. Medical personnel declared the victim deceased at the location. Cape Town Central detectives are currently investigating the case as a murder, according to SAPS Spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg.

“Anyone with any information about this shooting incident can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously,” added Twigg.

Vice chairperson of the Bo-Kaap Civic and Ratepayers Association, Ebrahim Billy Christian, expressed that the situation is quite alarming for the community and that such an event should not lead to further escalation.

“We are concerned about this incident because we want our immediate residents to feel safe, and we would like this to be resolved as soon as possible,” said Christians.
