Suspect to appear in court on chargers of rape

Local authorities have confirmed that a 51-year-old man is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges of rape.

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg said the possibility of additional charges being added has not been ruled out.

This follows an incident earlier this week in which a 9-year-old girl was allegedly held against her will in Hanover Park, raising concerns about the safety of minors in the area.

Hanover Park CPF representative Yaseen Johaar said the latest incident highlights the ongoing vulnerability of young children whose innocence is being stolen by perpetrators.

“This once again shows that our children remain unsafe, unprotected, and at risk. We urge the community not to take the law into their own hands and to allow justice to take its course,” he added.
