Suspect appears in court for pranking minor into consuming acid

A 53-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges of attempted murder.

Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said the suspect was arrested for allegedly pranking a 17-year-old into drinking liquid from a cool drink bottle that contained acid at Mitchell’s Butchery in Mitchells Plain.

“The suspect got cramps and vomited and was admitted to a medical facility to receive medical treatment. The case was reported by a family member the next day. Subsequently the butchery was closed pending further investigation,” he added.

VOC News reached out to the family, who were not available for comment.

Meanwhile, the owners of the butchery have declined to comment, stating that due to the matter being under investigation, they are unable to share any details.
