The organisation Sport Stepping Stones will host a mass iftar on Saturday, 28 February 2026, at Darul Islam High School, where food and treats will be distributed to 1,000 children from various areas across Cape Town. The initiative aims to support families during Ramadan while promoting community spirit and outreach.
Speaking to VOC News, Sport Stepping Stones CEO Abubaker “Boebie” Cassiem said that previous iftar initiatives catered to more than 1,000 children, but the current venue cannot accommodate a larger number.
“There will be a khatam (Qur’an recitation) for the children of Gaza, and guests from Palestine will deliver a talk on the situation in Gaza,” Cassiem explained.
