South Africans are online more than anyone else worldwide

Despite experiencing one of the highest unemployment rates globally, South Africans spend more time online than any other population worldwide. The 2025 We Are Social and DataReportal Global Digital Report indicates that South Africans are online for approximately nine hours and 37 minutes each day, which significantly exceeds the global average of six hours.

Mike Bolhuise, a special security services expert, stated in an interview with VOC News that the digital era has made it increasingly challenging to function without technology.
