In response to the alleged kidnapping and detention of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and Foreign Minister Celia Flores, several civil society groups are mobilising in solidarity with the people of Venezuela, Palestine and other communities affected by U.S. intervention.
Community members in Gauteng are calling on civic, student, academic and faith-based organisations, trade unions, activists and all South Africans to join the demand for the immediate release of Maduro and Flores.
Participants are expected to convene at the U.S. Consulate, 1 Sandton Drive, Sandton, Johannesburg, on Friday, 16 January 2026, from 12 pm to 2 pm.
Speaking to VOC News, activist Abeeda Adams said the initiative is not limited to Gauteng, noting that Cape Town will also be organising a solidarity picket in support of Venezuela.
