The Department of Social Development will roll out its new online registration and compliance monitoring system for non-profit organisations (NPOs) from Monday. The initiative forms part of the department’s broader strategy to digitise services in order to improve efficiency, accessibility, and accountability.
According to departmental spokesperson Lumka Oliphant, the system is designed to streamline processes by integrating with key regulatory bodies, including the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC), the South African Revenue Service (SARS), and the Department of Home Affairs.
“The first phase will take effect from 1 September, for the application of the new NPO registrations only, while the second phase will be introduced on 1 October, and the third phase will be introduced on 19 October. The three-phase deployment approach has been designed to prevent the collapse of services,” Oliphant said.
The department said that the new system will make it easier for NPOs to comply with regulations while reducing delays in registration and reporting.
