A six-year-old boy was tragically found dead in a washing machine at his home in Steenberg on Friday morning. The child’s father reported him missing to the police, who accompanied him to the house to search for the boy.
“The investigation led our members to a washing machine where the body of the child was found. Medical personnel declared the victim deceased at the scene. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death,” said police spokesperson Wesley Twigg.
The discovery has left the community in shock. Nicola Small from the Steenberg Community Police Forum said the incident has deeply affected residents.
“The CPF and our community are reeling following the discovery of a six-year-old boy earlier today. It’s still very early in the investigation, and we ask that everyone allow due process to take its course. This is meant to be a time of festivities and joy, but we are confronted with a tragedy of this magnitude. Today is indeed a very sad day for our residents,” Small added.
Police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
