The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is urging Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant beneficiaries to check their application status ahead of the May payments.
The R370 grant payouts are expected to be processed in batches between 24 and 30 May.
Beneficiaries can verify their status through the SASSA website, via WhatsApp by sending “Hi” to 082 046 8553 and following the prompts, or by dialling 1203210# or 1347737# on their mobile phones.
Recipients can also contact the toll-free call centre on 0800 60 10 11.
SASSA said beneficiaries are encouraged to regularly confirm their banking and personal details to avoid delays in receiving payments.
Once approved, the system will display a payment date, while some applicants may still see “pending” or “declined” statuses depending on verification and eligibility checks.
Meanwhile, SASSA has reassured beneficiaries that social grant payments will continue despite the ongoing legal dispute with Postbank.
Postbank is seeking interim relief to stop SASSA from terminating the master services agreement, arguing that millions of beneficiaries could face banking charges and lose protection against unauthorised deductions if the agreement comes to an end.
However, SASSA maintains that Postbank failed to meet its contractual obligations.
SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi insisted that all grants will continue to be paid.
