SA Journalist Shiraaz Mohammed Kidnapped in Syria

A South African photojournalist has reportedly been kidnapped in Syria near the Turkish border.

According to aid organization Gift of the Givers, Shiraz Mohamed was abducted by a group of men en-route to Turkey.

Gift of the Givers Imtiaz Sooliman says the information he has from his team in Syria is that his abductors just wanted to question him.

“When they took him they didn’t threaten him. They didn’t ask for a license, they just said there is a misunderstanding that they need to clear up and within two or three days they will return him to the Gift of the Givers hospital.”

Sooliman says Mohamed has not been returned.

“It’s four days today we haven’t heard from him or having information of his whereabouts. We have a team inside Syria working on the situation.”

Sooliman says Mohamed was keen to go to Syria and for years was trying to get there.
