Following the withdrawal of the visa exemption for Palestinians who landed in South Africa in November last month, reports stated that the 90-day visa exemption for ordinary Palestinian passport holders has been withdrawn.
Meanwhile, legal experts have convened to assess the current legal standing of the situation since the Palestinians landed.
Speaking to VOC News, attorney Yousha Tayoub stated that the decision by the Department of Home Affairs is subject to review and will be contested.
“The difficulties for Palestinians applying for a visa were largely due to the war in Gaza and the fact that there’s no access point to apply for the visa. From a legal perspective, the decision has to be contested because the department is dealing with the consequences and not the cause of the situation,” explained Tayoub.
