Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said South Africa is committed to building a reliable and resilient electricity system capable of meeting the country’s growing energy demand.
Ramokgopa is leading a South African delegation to China as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation on energy investment and infrastructure development. The visit aims to attract investment into electricity generation, expand the national grid, and accelerate the rollout of renewable energy projects.
According to the minister, the focus is now on moving beyond planning and ensuring that projects are implemented while deepening strategic partnerships that will enhance South Africa’s long-term energy security.
Ramokgopa said the country is also working to develop its own industrial capacity to support the energy sector.
“We have every intention of ensuring that we are able to build the industrial capability, advanced manufacturing, engineering, developing the skills to build export-competitive industries, introduce standards and certifications to ensure we are able to compete with the leading players in the energy complex,” he said.
He added that strengthening international partnerships will play a key role in driving investment, creating jobs and supporting South Africa’s transition to a more sustainable energy future.
