President Cyril Ramaphosa is awaiting the outcome of the Madlanga Commission before deciding on the future of suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
Mchunu has been placed on special leave following allegations of corruption and political interference.
Speaking to VOC News, organised crime expert Chad Thomas said the most striking aspect of the situation is that the country moved from having one deputy police minister to two.
“So, these two deputy police ministers received all the rights and privileges associated with their offices — whether it’s VIP protection, a substantial salary, or official housing — only to discover that they were not assigned or given any duties by their minister during his tenure as Minister of Police,” Thomas explained.
