Today marks day two of the shutdown of certain Cape Town metro minibus taxi routes following the ‘extraordinary’ measures implemented by the Western Cape Department of Mobility on Wednesday. The 30-day road closures, due to persistent violence in the sector, were enacted under Section 91 of the National Land Transport Act (2009), with the impacted routes being in Mfuleni, Somerset West, Khayelitsha, Nomzamo, and Lwandle areas.
Furthermore, Provincial Minister of Mobility Isaac Sileku has stated that some individuals have not complied with the road closures and that those who break the law will be taken to task.
