Postbank has moved to reassure millions of South Africans who rely on its Black Cards and the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) Gold Cards that their social grants will continue to be paid securely and on time.
This follows widespread concern sparked by false reports that Postbank’s master services agreement with SASSA is set to expire, potentially disrupting payments.
Postbank spokesperson Bongani Diako clarified that, while the agreement is subject to periodic reviews, it has no bearing on the disbursement of grants.
“Beneficiaries can rest assured that their payments are safe and will not be interrupted. There is also absolutely no need for beneficiaries using Postbank’s Black Cards and SASSA Gold Cards to change their payment methods or open new bank accounts, despite any external calls to do so. They will always receive their payments securely and on time through their existing cards,” Diako said.
Meanwhile, human rights organisation Black Sash has weighed in, expressing concern about the recurring uncertainty faced by grant recipients and calling for greater transparency and stronger systems to safeguard vulnerable South Africans.
