Police Confirm Attempted Hit on Controversial Businessman Brown Mogotsi

Police confirm Brown Mogotsi survived a shooting in Vosloorus on Sunday night.

According to initial reports, multiple gunshots were fired at Mogotsi’s vehicle, but he managed to escape unharmed.

Mogotsi, well-known in business circles for his controversial dealings, has previously faced allegations of connections with politicians, police officers, and figures in organised crime.

National police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe confirmed that a case of attempted murder has been opened.

“When we arrived, we found Mr. Brown Mogotsi on the scene. He alleges that there was a white bike that was following him and then started shooting at his vehicle. We then mobilized the necessary forensic teams, who collected all available physical evidence that will assist us in determining exactly what transpired,” said Mathe.

Mogotsi’s name has featured prominently in investigations into alleged corruption within the South African Police Service.

Madlanga Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels said the commission is concerned about Mogotsi’s safety.

“We certainly are very concerned. The safety of all witnesses, and I should perhaps add that we have been in touch as the Commission with Mr. Mogotsi around his safety. Of course, it is up to an individual witness to accept witness protection,” said Michaels.

Police are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
