Petrol bombs found at Wits

Several petrol bombs have been found at Wits University’s main campus in Braamfontein.

Students are forging ahead with protest action at the university calling for free higher education.

On Tuesday, chaos broke out at the university with students clashing with police resulting in several injuries.

On Monday, students took their fight to the streets of Braamfontein were they torched a bus and looted shops.

As students remain resolute with protest action running into the fourth week, police found five petrol bombs at the universities Braamfontein campus.

Wits spokesperson Shirona Patel confirmed that a bag was found with three petrol bombs at Raikes Gate on the west campus.

Further, two petrol bombs were also found outside the John Moffet building. Security has now also been beefed up with hundreds of police patrolling the university.

Private security guards are also searching all vehicles entering the campus.

Wits earlier said its academic programme will continue on Wednesday.
