Parliament has suspended National Coloured Congress (NCC) leader and Member of Parliament Fadiel Adams for 20 sitting days, with the suspension taking effect from 3 August and running until the end of the month.
The suspension was imposed under the Powers, Privileges and Immunities of Parliament and Provincial Legislatures Act, with Adams accused of bringing Parliament into disrepute.
This is the latest in a series of disciplinary actions against Adams. In December, Parliament suspended him from parliamentary meetings and sittings for 20 days and docked his salary for the same period after he published the personal details of Democratic Alliance (DA) staff members on social media.
Adams was also suspended from the National Assembly for 15 days early last year following a social media rant.
The secretary of the parliamentary impeachment committee, Thembinkosi Ngoma, confirmed the latest sanction following Adams’ absence from the committee meeting.
“The NCC member has been suspended for 20 days with effect from 3 August. So, he’s not on the platform, and he will only be joining the committee once the suspension is done,” Ngoma said.
Adams is expected to appear before the Madlanga Commission on Tuesday, where he is due to respond to whistleblower complaints, allegations relating to leaked classified Crime Intelligence documents, and related criminal allegations.
