Parliament’s ad hoc committee investigating allegations raised by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is seeking another extension to complete its work.
The committee has already been granted four extensions and was initially expected to finalise its report by Thursday.
Members met this week to address administrative matters, including reviewing a draft report on progress to date.
However, evidence leader Norman Arendse told the committee that delays in obtaining testimony transcripts have slowed the process.
“We would have a draft report ready in a week’s time. I see the transcripts have been coming in thick and fast. I think it’s now sort of at the 80 to 90% mark, and hopefully those transcripts will all come in certainly by the end of this week,” Arendse said.
He added that the long weekend may affect timelines, but a draft report is expected within the next week once all transcripts are received.
