Forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan has told Parliament’s ad hoc committee that a perjury case he opened against former State Security Agency head Arthur Fraser has stalled, with no apparent progress at Rosebank Police Station.
O’Sullivan, who is testifying before the committee probing alleged political interference in the justice system, also denied claims that he assisted President Cyril Ramaphosa or his adviser, Bejani Chauke, in tracing suspects linked to the Phala Phala farm break-in. He said he only became aware of the matter after Fraser publicly implicated him.
“I never even knew about any money being stolen from the couch until I read about it in the media,” O’Sullivan told MPs. “I obtained a copy of the affidavit from journalists and then opened a perjury docket against Arthur Fraser. Nothing has happened in that case.”
He also rejected allegations that he infiltrated the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID). O’Sullivan said he opened a corruption case in 2016 against former acting police commissioner Khomotso Phahlane, involving allegations of money laundering and racketeering.
“I have not infiltrated IPID. IPID refused to investigate that docket because it was part of the state capture project,” he said, adding that the matter was pursued after Robert McBride’s reinstatement.
