The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has announced the establishment of a specialised task team in response to the interim report of the Madlanga Judicial Commission of Inquiry.
Speaking to the media in Pretoria on Friday, Advocate Andy Mothibi said the team will comprise investigators and state advocates who will conduct prosecutor-guided investigations.
“This model is designed to ensure swift and effective investigations, with prosecutors and investigators working closely to manage cases that should ultimately culminate in prosecution,” he said.
Mothibi added that the Asset Forfeiture Unit would be involved where necessary to recover the proceeds of crime.
“This approach is critical to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that those responsible for identified criminality are held accountable,” he said.
The task team will provide real-time guidance during investigations, enabling prosecutors to make quicker decisions based on the evidence gathered.
Mothibi said the NPA would brief the media again once the team is fully operational and its priorities have been finalised.
