Residents of Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain, are reeling after a deadly shooting on Monday afternoon that claimed the life of an adult male, prompting a murder investigation and fears of escalating gang violence in the area.
According to South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, the suspects fled the scene and remain at large.
“Preliminary reports suggest that the deceased received a call to fetch his children in Metropolitan Street, and upon arrival in the street, was ambushed by three unknown armed men and a female. The men opened fire at his vehicle and hit him multiple times in his upper body. The deceased succumbed to the injuries sustained and was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel,” said Pojie.
Authorities believe the motive for the attack may be gang-related.
