Local authorities have launched an investigation into two counts of murder and five attempted murders in connection with a series of shootings on OR Tambo Road, Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay, on Thursday that killed two men and injured five others aged 22 to 43 years. The suspects are yet to appear in Wynberg Magistrates’ Court.
According to SAPS Spokesperson Captain F.C. Van Wyk, Hout Bay officers received a report that people at the Hout Bay Fire Department had been shot.
“The members arrived and discovered four victims who had been treated for gunshot wounds. The victims informed the members that two people at the mentioned address were presumably killed. When the members arrived at the address, they discovered two bodies with gunshot wounds on the ground,” said van Wyk.
The captain further states that they later discovered a fifth victim, with the motive behind the attack yet to be understood.
“It was later discovered that a fifth victim, who was also injured, had been transported to the hospital for medical treatment before the members arrived on scene. The motive for this shooting incident is still under investigation by the police. Seven suspects between the ages of 19 and 31 were arrested, and two firearms were discovered. “These firearms will undergo ballistic testing,” added van Wyk.
