Mkhwebane confirms Madonsela’s state capture report is final

Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has confirmed to President Jacob Zuma that the locked up state capture report is the final report.

While Mkwebane has not seen the report, her office confirmed that she received the advice from attorneys that the report is final.

“The Public Protector has the President’s latest affidavit, and has through the attorneys confirmed that the report was finalised and signed… on 14 October 2016,” the public protector’s spokesperson Kgalalelo Masibi said.

The report was signed off by Mkhwebane’s predecessor Thuli Madonsela before her term came to an end about two weeks ago.

President Jacob Zuma has filed a High Court application to interdict the release of the report, citing he was not afforded enough time to respond to questions send by Madonsela.

The President has confirmed that the report implicates him.

The report centres on the alleged influence of the Gupta family over the appointment of ministers and members of boards at state enterprises.

President Zuma’s application will be heard next week Tuesday, with some three opposition parties including the Democratic Alliance (DA) opposing the application.
