Mitchells Plain Learner Wins Top Honours in STEAMAC Quiz

A Grade 9 learner from Darul Arqam Islamic High School in Mitchells Plain is making waves after being crowned the overall winner of the Metro South Education District’s STEAMAC Quiz Competition.

Sarah Dollie emerged victorious against strong competition from more than 40 schools, progressing through online rounds before securing the win in a high-pressure final held at the Metro South Head Office.

The STEAMAC Quiz, which covers Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, Agriculture, and Coding, aims to promote excellence across key learning areas. Dollie delivered an outstanding performance in subjects such as Technology, Natural Sciences, and Mathematics.

Speaking to VOC, Dollie said her interest in these subjects motivated her to participate after being encouraged by her teachers.

“I couldn’t believe I had won. I didn’t expect it at all because I was quite intimidated by the other schools competing. It was really unbelievable,” she said.

She added that her family shared in her excitement.

“My parents were extremely proud. My mother even bought me a gift—she put together a small parcel of snacks and treats. She was very proud.”
