The former MK Party and EFF Secretary-General Floyd Shivambu led the Mayibuye Consultation Process in KwaZulu-Natal over the weekend. He met with community leaders and various stakeholders about the possibility of a new political party entering the upcoming local government elections.
Prof. Dirk Kotze, Department of Political Science at UNISA, told VOC News that, according to Floyd Shivambu, KZN was the last province visited, and that it could be considered a roadshow and part of the consultation process.
“The track record of political parties formed or established recently, even by high-profile people, at the time, there was no specific issue or incident, like COPE, for example, after President Thabo Mbeki was recalled, or the EFF, when the youth league was largely expelled from the ANC, or President Jacob Zuma forming the MK Party.”
“In all other respects, those parties that were formed were unable to gain traction, and Floyd Shivambu’s prospects are extremely bleak.”
