Services at the Town Two Clinic in Khayelitsha have been temporarily suspended following threats made against security personnel, the City of Cape Town has confirmed. The incident has been reported to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
The City said the closure was necessary to allow for safety assessments and the implementation of additional security measures. The clinic is expected to reopen on Monday, 16 February, pending the completion of final checks.
“We strongly condemn threats against security personnel and any disruption of services to a vulnerable community. No criminal elements can be allowed to hold essential services to ransom,” said the Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Francine Higham.
During the closure, City Health deployed a mobile clinic at the Mandela Park Metro Police offices to provide chronic medication, immunisation, and reproductive health services. Patients were also referred to nearby clinics where necessary.
The City has urged residents with information that could assist the investigation to come forward and report it to SAPS.
