Today marks World Humanitarian Day, with this year’s theme being #ActForHumanity. Israeli authorities have threatened to block aid from entering Gaza. According to Amnesty International, the lethal combination of hunger and disease is not merely an unintentional byproduct of Israeli occupation operations.
Speaking on VOC News, Yusuf Mohamed, CEO of Islamic Relief South Africa, described the dire situation facing the Palestinian people as starvation deepens in Gaza.
“We have witnessed not only the extent of the damage but also the ongoing genocide in the face of global protests, including in South Africa. People all over the world are protesting and speaking out against this genocide. However, it appears that no one can tell the Israeli government what to do.”
“The occupation acts with impunity, and their actions, as we have seen over the last 22 months, are unbelievable. I doubt any of us expected it to happen in the twenty-first century.”
Mohamed was also disappointed by the Israeli-occupation government’s recent announcement that it will not allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, saying that “despite the severity of the famine that Gaza is currently experiencing, it boggles the mind.”
