The Independent Development Trust (IDT) has suspended its CEO, Tebogo Malaka, following allegations that she and her spokesperson, Phasha Makgolane, offered Daily Maverick investigative journalist Pieter-Louis Myburgh R60,000 in cash to suppress an ongoing investigation by the publication.
Speaking to VOC News, Myburgh stated that the alleged bribe was intended to prevent the publication of a story that is yet to be released.
“The parties involved were desperate to ensure that this story does not see the light of day. While one can understand their motive, it is astonishing and unprecedented in my journalistic career to encounter such a situation,” he said.
