A hiker has died after falling from a trail on Lion’s Head in the Table Mountain National Park in Cape Town.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene and made several attempts to reach the hiker; however, rescue efforts were unsuccessful. The individual was later declared dead at the scene.
SANParks spokesperson JP Louw confirmed that the incident has been handed over to the South African Police Service for further investigation. He said no additional details about the deceased would be released at this stage.
“Despite the efforts of all who were involved, the hiker was sadly declared deceased at the scene. Out of respect for the family, SANParks will not provide further details of the deceased,” Louw said.
He also expressed gratitude to Wilderness Search and Rescue, SANParks rangers, SkyMed, and other emergency personnel who assisted during the operation.
“SANParks extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time,” he added.
