Hamas and Israeli delegations, alongside international mediators, met in Egypt on Monday, 6 October 2025, as U.S. President Donald Trump urged negotiators to “act quickly” to resolve the nearly two-year-long humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas stated that its delegation is led by Khalil al-Hayya, head of the group’s negotiating team and a target of a recent Israeli assassination attempt in Qatar.
Speaking to VOC News, Nasiha Soomar, of the South Africa Palestine Movement, said these are not peace talks—they are a theatrical design to buy time and shift the public attention.
