Former Bafana Bafana defender and football development mentor Nasief Morris is set to launch the N5 Arena at Westridge High School on Youth Day, with the aim of creating opportunities for young people in Mitchells Plain through sport.
The five-a-side football facility is designed to nurture local talent while also providing a safe and positive environment for youth development within the community.
Explaining the inspiration behind the project, Morris said the name carries personal significance.
“The N is for Nasief, and the 5 is the number that I used to use when I was playing,” he said.
Morris, who grew up in Beacon Valley, said the vision has always been to establish a high-quality sporting facility that would benefit the wider Mitchells Plain community.
“I wanted to create a venue or facility in Mitchells Plain that is on a nice top level and could be beneficial for everybody in the community,” he explained.
He said Westridge High School was identified as the ideal location due to the size of the available grounds.
“I approached the school with a proposal to set up the facility, and we came to an agreement. We secured a lease from the school that will run for the next 15 or 16 years,” Morris added.
The N5 Arena is expected to host coaching clinics, tournaments and youth development programmes, with Morris hoping the initiative will help shape the next generation of football talent from Mitchells Plain.
