Ford Transit and Transit/Tourneo Custom vehicles are being recalled due to a potential battery issue, the National Consumer Commission (NCC) has confirmed. The recall affects 582 vehicles built between 2022 and 2026 and sold nationwide from 2021 to 2025.
According to Ford, the affected vehicles are fitted with H7 AGM batteries that may emit a rotten-egg smell inside the cabin, produce a hissing sound, or show visible gas venting. In some cases, the seat area may feel unusually warm.
Elevated battery temperatures can trigger a reaction that produces hydrogen sulphide gas, which could pose health risks if inhaled over prolonged periods.
The NCC emphasised that owners of affected vehicles will not incur any costs for the necessary repairs.
“Vehicle owners are urged to take their cars to the nearest authorised dealership for inspection and repair. All necessary work will be carried out at no cost to the consumer,” said NCC spokesperson Phetho Ntaba.
Owners are advised to contact their local Ford dealerships promptly to schedule the service and ensure their vehicles remain safe to drive.
