Donald Trump delivered the State of the Union address in Washington yesterday. The speech — the longest in modern American history — outlined the president’s plans for the year ahead, including the introduction of voter ID requirements for the upcoming U.S. midterm elections.
During his address, Trump also highlighted what he described as the success of Operation Midnight Hammer, a surprise U.S. strike on Iranian nuclear sites.
However, despite claiming the mission was successful, he reiterated that Iran has resumed its nuclear development and now has the capacity to threaten Europe.
“They’ve already developed missiles that can threaten Europe and our bases overseas. And they’re working to build missiles that will soon reach the United States of America. After Midnight Hammer, they were warned to make no future attempts to rebuild their weapons program, in particular nuclear weapons. Yet they continue, starting it all over. We wiped it out, and they want to start all over again and are at this moment pursuing their sinister ambitions,” Trump said.
Responding to the rhetoric from Western leader, Esmail Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, denounced Trump’s claims as false. According to Baqaei, the president’s remarks are part of a propaganda campaign against the Iranian state.
“‘Repeat a lie often enough, and it becomes the truth’ is a law of propaganda coined by Nazi Joseph Goebbels. This is now systematically used by the U.S. administration and the war profiteers surrounding it, particularly the genocidal Israeli regime, to advance their disinformation campaign against the nation of Iran. Whatever they allege regarding Iran’s nuclear program, its ballistic missiles, or the number of casualties during January’s unrest is simply a repetition of ‘big lies,’” Baqaei said
