DA requests probe into allegations of ANC covert campaign

The DA says it will ask the Independent Electoral Commission to look at allegations that the ANC set up a covert election campaign to disempower opposition parties ahead of last year’s municipal vote.

PR expert Sihle Bolani has claimed in a court affidavit that an ANC campaign team known as the War Room was to set up a seemingly independent website, use so-called ‘influencers’ on social media and print fake opposition party posters.

Bolani is demanding R2.2 million she says she is owed for work done for the team.

DA spokesperson Mabine Seabe says it’s clear the Electoral Act has been violated.

Seabe says that the ANC has become more desperate and they’ll use any form of tactics even though it can be deemed illegal to ensure that they hold on to power without delivering services to the people of South Africa.

He says: “Therefore as the DA, we are going to work hard to ensure that more South Africans hear our message so that we can free the people of South Africa from the ANC’s band of corrupt governance.”
