Crime statistics for the third quarter in the Western Cape indicate that murder has experienced a minor decline

Crime statistics for the third quarter of the ongoing financial year in the Western Cape indicate that murder has experienced a minor decline, whereas there has been a rise in attempted murders and sexual offences.

From October to December 2025, the province reported 1,157 murders, a decrease of 41 cases from the same timeframe in 2024

Speaking to VOC News, Western Cape CPF Rafique Folflonker said the community remains concerned about sexual offences.

“We are equally alarmed by the increase in sexual offences, with over 2000 cases reported this quarter, and that includes 1,370 rape cases,” stated Folflonker.

“Sexual violence continues to devastate families and communities, and we must strengthen support for survivors or intensify prevention efforts,” he added.
