The community of Cafda and surrounding areas is reeling after the discovery of a six-year-old boy’s body at a home on Ensor Street on Friday. The child had been reported missing by his father on Thursday morning, prompting a police search of the residence.
Speaking to VOC News, Nicola Small, chairperson of the Steenberg Community Policing Forum (CPF), said the tragedy has deeply affected residents, who are now calling for peace and justice.
“Yesterday was an extremely sad day for the community of Cafda and the Steenberg precinct at large. Investigations into the cause of his death are underway, and we ask that the community respect SAPS in due process and avoid spreading rumors on social media. We also appeal to anyone with information to come forward to assist SAPS,” Small said.
Police confirmed that the child’s body was found in a washing machine at the residence. Medical personnel declared the victim deceased at the scene. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
