COLT fundraiser to aid young learners

The Children of Light Educare (COLT), an Early Childhood Development centre based in Rondebosch, will host its first-ever fundraising golf day on the 26 March 2026 at the Rondebosch Golf Club. The initiative aims to raise funds to support the organisation’s work providing free education, care, and support to children from underprivileged communities in Athlone and Lansdowne.

Fundraiser and co-communications coordinator at COLT, Anika Singh, says the event promises both entertainment and networking opportunities. “Apart from a fantastic day of golf, there will be opportunities to win prizes, participate in an exciting auction, enjoy a lovely dinner, and interact with other companies that are sponsoring holes,” she explains.

While sponsorship commitments are still being finalised, Singh says discussions are underway. “I think nothing concrete as of yet, but there are some other good companies like MUA, an IT consulting firm.”

Funds raised will go directly towards enhancing the centre’s programmes and resources for children aged four to six. Singh highlights the importance of developmentally appropriate learning tools. “The funds will go directly towards the children, and it will help provide the children with more educational resources: things like puzzles, toys, storybooks.”

She adds that COLT’s support extends beyond education. “We also have a nutrition program where we provide food parcels not only for the children, but for the parents as well, and it also just helps to sustain and maintain a safe learning environment for the children.”

The golf day marks an important step in strengthening community support for the centre’s ongoing work.
