COCT says earthy flavoured water is safe to drink

LOCAL

The City of Cape Town has reassured residents detecting an earthy flavour to their tap water, that it remains safe to drink.

Mayoral committee member for Water and Sanitation Zahid Badroodien says the change in taste is due to a naturally occurring organic compound called geosmin in the raw water supply.

He says it poses no threat to human health and water treatment processes are underway.
