Forty-six families who were recently relocated from Eskom’s National Transmission Company’s 37 site in Langa have officially been connected to electricity.
The switch-on follows a City of Cape Town operation that moved residents who had been living under the NTCSA pylon. The structure had become dangerously unstable due to ongoing damage and vandalism, prompting the emergency relocation.
Mayoral committee member for Energy, Xanthea Limberg, described the development as a major milestone, saying it ensures safe and reliable electricity for the households now living at the relocation site.
She added that the provision of electricity not only improves daily living conditions but also strengthens safety in the community.
“The families can now settle with dignity. We thank the residents for their patience and understanding. This switch-on marks the beginning of a new chapter for the families, one where safety and access to essential services are ensured,” she added.
