The City of Cape Town is concerned about the number of individuals driving without a valid license or proof of a valid license. During an operation in the Cape Town CBD last Friday, traffic officers reported a total of 164 violations, with 54 drivers unable to present a driver’s license. JP Smith, the Mayco member for Safety and Security, emphasised the importance of carrying a physical driver’s license card when leaving home, as digital copies are not accepted.
“We face many challenges with unlicensed drivers, who pose a danger to themselves and others. Presenting a valid driving license card is also the only way to prove that they are driving legally,” he stated.
