Cape Town residents could soon access a new appointment-only Home Affairs office at the Civic Centre on Hertzog Boulevard. The move is intended to ease pressure on the busy Barrack Street office and improve access to services.
The proposed office will be located on the second floor of the Civic Centre. The Department of Home Affairs will lease the space from the City and begin internal construction and operational preparations once the lease is finalised. The proposal is expected to go before Council in March.
“Once established, this office will provide residents with appointment-based access to national government services in a central location,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys.
Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth Alderman James Vos said the lease would allow the City to make better use of its property assets.
Minister of Home Affairs Dr Leon Schreiber said the office forms part of the Home Affairs @ Home programme, which aims to bring services closer to residents. “Locating services in an accessible facility makes it easier for residents to access critical documents in a safe and efficient way,” he said.
